It is primarily known as an experimental inhibitor of serine/threonine-protein kinase PknG (PKNG_MYCTU), a bacterial kinase implicated in the survival and virulence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. By inhibiting PknG activity in M. tuberculosis and related mycobacteria species such as M. bovis BCG and M. smegmatis (Msmeg), this compound disrupts bacterial signaling pathways that allow intracellular persistence within host macrophages[5]. The molecule has been studied for its potential as an anti-mycobacterial agent but is not approved for clinical use[3][10].
